What is a sewer camera inspection?
A sewer camera inspection is a video survey of your sewer line. A plumber feeds a waterproof camera on a flexible rod through the pipe and records what it sees, so the condition, location and depth of any problem can be identified without digging.
It is the difference between “your line is probably blocked somewhere” and “there is root intrusion at a clay joint thirty-one feet from the cleanout, four feet down, and the pipe either side of it is sound.” Only one of those is something you can make a decision from.
Our camera inspection services include:
Sewer line camera inspections
Pre-purchase home inspections
Root intrusion diagnosis
Recurring clog investigation
Pipe material and condition assessment

What we look for
Six findings account for most of what we see in DMV sewer laterals. Each one points to a different repair, and knowing which you have is the whole point of the inspection.
Root intrusion
Roots entering at a joint or crack and catching everything that passes. The most common finding in older neighbourhoods with mature trees. Clearing restores flow but does not stop them returning.
Offset joint
Two pipe sections shifted out of alignment. The lip catches debris and the problem compounds. A small offset can often be lined. A severe one blocks the liner completely.
Belly, or sagged section
A dip where the pipe has settled below grade. Waste sits in it permanently and solids accumulate. Important: lining follows the existing grade, so it does not fix a belly.
Cracks and fractures
Breaks in the pipe wall. Soil and groundwater get in, waste gets out. Isolated damage suits a patch. Several fractures along a run usually mean lining the whole thing.
Scale and corrosion
Mineral and rust buildup narrowing the bore in older cast iron. Flow drops steadily and debris starts catching. Jetting can restore diameter if the remaining wall is sound.
Deformation or collapse
The pipe has ovaled or partially collapsed under soil load. Very common in Orangeburg, which deforms rather than cracks. Once shape is lost, lining is generally not viable.
Our Proven Process
Our Camera Inspection Process
We hold ourselves to a clear standard: show you the actual problem, not a guess, and explain what it means before recommending any repair.
01
Initial Assessment
We talk through the symptoms you're experiencing, whether that's recurring clogs, odors, or slow drains, to figure out where to start looking.
02
Camera Inspection
We insert a waterproof, high-definition camera into the line and view the footage in real time, mapping exactly where the problem is located.
03
Diagnosis & Findings
We walk you through what the camera found, in plain language, and explain what it means for your plumbing system.
04
Recommendation & Quote
Based on what we see, we recommend the right next step, whether that's a simple cleaning, a targeted repair, or a full line replacement, along with a clear price.

I had a very positive experience with Twin Plumbing Solutions and Parker. He was warm, professional, attentive, knowledgeable, and very easy to communicate with throughout the process. He took the time to explain what he was seeing, discussed the different repair options with me, and gave me a clear written quote. What especially impressed me was how quickly everything was handled. I requested a quote and the work was completed the same day. The price also felt very reasonable for the scope of the work. Parker worked efficiently and carefully, and he even took care of an unrelated clogged half-bath faucet that had not been flowing at full pressure, without charging me anything extra. That was very much appreciated. Most importantly, the plumbing issue appears to be fully resolved. It is now the second day after the work was completed and everything is working well with no problems that I can see. Overall, excellent service, good communication, thoughtful attention to detail, and a very professional experience. I would gladly use Twin Plumbing Solutions again and highly recommend Parker and the team.Posted on Google![]()

Parker is the most responsive and honest plumber I have ever worked with. He answered my call and made arrangements to evaluate my plumbing crisis the same day. His evaluation and visit was free of charge! No service call charge. He was professional and personable and quickly earned my trust. After an evaluation, he provided me with an estimate that was reasonable for the scope of work required. All of his estimates are sent electronically and once I clicked on the accept button, Parker reached out and we got the job scheduled. The day of the work, Parker was good at communicating his estimated time of arrival and was sensitive to my work schedule. The job was completed, checked and tested very quickly. Twins plumbing did an exceptional job, were reasonably priced and were trust worthy and reliable. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better experience.Posted on Google![]()

We’ve had such a great experience with Twin Plumbing Solutions! This is the second time we’ve used their services, this time for a different office location, and once again they were fantastic. Both of our offices are located in DC, which can sometimes make coordinating service a little more complicated. One of our locations is also in a federal building, so there were additional requirements and documentation needed before they could be approved to perform the work. Twin Plumbing Solutions was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. They provided everything we needed to obtain approval, scheduled the visit promptly, and got the job done without any issues. Jessy and his team were professional, reliable, easy to work with, and extremely responsive. It’s refreshing to work with a company that makes the entire process so easy from start to finish. We will definitely continue using Twin Plumbing Solutions for our offices and highly recommend them!Posted on Google![]()

Five-star service! I was in a complete panic when my shower valve burst, but Twin Plumbing came to the rescue. They responded and Jesse arrived the very same day I called, which was a lifesaver. Jesse was incredibly friendly, kind, and reassuring from the moment he walked in. He was professional and went above and beyond to be helpful during a stressful situation. To top it all off, the price was great and very reasonable. I will definitely be calling Twin Plumbing Solutions again for any future plumbing needs!Posted on Google![]()

We have a 100 year old bungalow in Takoma Park with one bathroom and a main sewer line that had backed up six times in under two years. The original pipe was terra cotta and tree roots were coming in every few feet. Twin Plumbing lined the whole run with a new pipe from the inside, re-piped the old cast iron stack in the basement, and found and repaired a broken section under the basement floor that nobody had caught before. The job finished right on schedule. What I appreciated most was that they explained what they were doing in plain language at every step, which is not something I've gotten from every plumber I've hired. Professional, easy to have in the house, and straight with me about what they were finding. They also pulled together the documentation I needed for a Maryland historic tax credit application, broken out the way the state wanted it. They didn't have to do that, and it saved me a lot of back and forth. Good work. Would hire them again.Posted on Google![]()

Twin Plumbing Solutions did an amazing job replacing our sewer line. Our entire inside sewer line was completely rotted out, and I was worried we would have to tear up the basement floor to replace it. Instead, they installed a 20-foot trenchless CIPP liner, which allowed them to restore the sewer line without digging up our basement floor. The whole process went smoothly, the crew was professional, and they saved us from a huge mess and costly floor repairs. I highly recommend Twin Plumbing Solutions to anyone dealing with damaged or deteriorated sewer lines! Best plumbing company in Montgomery CountyPosted on Google![]()

I found Twin Plumbing Solutions via Yelp and compared the reviews there to the ones on Google. 5-star across the board, and my experience so far is the same. Jesse has been very responsive to the problems I've had with my garbage disposal and kitchen sink, has explained the issues and solutions clearly, and their prices seem very fair. I'm already planning to have them replace my hot water heater later this year.Posted on Google![]()

This place has saved me twice. Once from a shower that had been broken for over two years. Then less then 72 hours later...my toilet exploded(not really, but it overflowed in an obnoxious way). Now these two things were entirely unrelated but I had no one else to call and they rose to the occasion. They cam out gave me a great price and just saved my Sunday night. I owe them big time. They are professional and kind. I will definitely be calling them back for future plumbing help.
What you get
What you take away from the inspection
- The recorded video of your line, yours to keep
- Written findings in plain language
- Surface marks showing where any problem sits
- Recorded depth at the problem location
- Pipe material identified
- Repair options with the reasoning behind each
- Pricing you can take to another contractor for a second opinion
That last one is deliberate. If our number is not the right one for you, you should still walk away with the diagnosis you paid for.
When it is worth doing
When you should get an inspection
A camera inspection is one of the highest-value diagnostic services in plumbing, because it costs a small fraction of the repairs it prevents you from buying unnecessarily.
Before you buy a house
A standard home inspection does not include the sewer lateral. For anything built before roughly 1980 that is a significant gap, because a failed lateral is frequently a five-figure repair and it becomes entirely your responsibility the moment you close. In the post-war neighbourhoods closest to the DC line, original clay and cast iron laterals are the norm rather than the exception, and Orangeburg turns up regularly. A pre-purchase scope is inexpensive insurance and it gives you something concrete to negotiate with.
Before you accept a sewer repair quote
If someone has quoted you sewer work without putting a camera in the line, you are being asked to buy a solution to an undiagnosed problem. Ask what the pipe is made of, where the defect sits, how deep it is, and how long the damaged section runs. If those questions cannot be answered, the quote is an estimate of an unknown.
Before you build over the line
Finishing a basement, pouring a patio, adding hardscaping, or planting mature trees along the route are all far cheaper to plan around than to undo. Knowing the condition and exact position of the lateral before the work starts is worth an hour of someone's time.
What affects the cost
We do not publish a flat number because the honest answer varies. What moves it: whether an accessible cleanout already exists, how long the run is, whether the line has to be cleared before the camera can pass, whether you need a formal written report for a transaction, and whether it is standard hours or emergency. If the inspection leads to a repair with us, we tell you upfront how it is credited against the job.

Have questions about scheduling, service areas, or coverage? Read our quick answers below or call us directly at (301) 920-6922.
How much does a sewer camera inspection cost in Laurel, MD?
Cost depends on the length of the line and how the pipe is accessed. We provide a clear, upfront price before any inspection begins, so you know exactly what to expect.
Do you offer same-day camera inspections?
Yes. We offer same-day scheduling for most calls throughout Laurel, MD, and emergency inspection service is available for urgent concerns.
Can a camera inspection tell me if I need a full sewer line replacement?
Yes. The footage shows the exact condition of your pipe, whether it’s a minor issue that just needs cleaning, a section that needs targeted repair, or damage extensive enough to require a full line replacement.
Should I get a camera inspection before buying a home?
It’s a smart step, especially for older homes or properties with cast iron or clay sewer lines. A camera inspection can catch expensive problems before they become your responsibility.
How long does a sewer camera inspection take?
Most residential inspections take under an hour, depending on the length and complexity of the line.
